O S M O S I S
Nathan’s 12 years of professional experience in Training and Development surrounding diversity and sensitivity issues merges with his dynamic artistry and dance making to create Osmosis, a lecture presentation on the meanings and “meanfullness” of words through dance. With a grant from Brown University's Creative Arts Council, this lecture presents 4 solo pieces from Andary Dance’s repertory that compare and contrast each work through student development theorist Louis Cross and Dr. Shakti Butler's work surrounding privilege.

The program is one hour in length (30 minute performance / 30 minute lecture) consisting of 4 solo dances and an in-depth discussion focusing on socioeconomic disparity, hetero-sexism, racism, and sexism.

Highlights
Comfort Endured mines Andary's heritage of growing up in the Kentucky foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.

A More Complex Passing Thought and Stream of Consciousness investigate the mindless activity that we perform everyday resulting from those life incidents that become larger than we really recognize or understand. Our thoughts carry us away on a journey within a journey. This solo looks at life from a different perspective presenting a thought, a wish and a journey.

Quote:

The discussions surrounding racism, sexism, and hetero-sexism are difficult, yet necessary. Nathan along with his dancers delved deep into the subject offering a rich and meaningful lecture that added another layer to our ongoing campus dialogue. Andary Dance's use of dance as a vehicle to combat ignorance and apathy is to be applauded. This country needs more Andary Dance ensembles in our quest to realize a society with 'liberty and justice for all'!
